Traditional Village Heritage and Education: A Study on Historical Memory and Cultural Identity Based on Yincheng Ancient Town

Abstract

This paper is a part of the full study of Yin Cheng Ancient Town in Southeastern Shanxi: exploring historical memory and cultural identity of village heritage, this study aims to explore how heritage education promotes cultural identity and the preservation of village heritage in Yincheng Ancient Town in southeastern Shanxi. The study is about understanding through which local educational programme students are aware of the cultural heritage and develop an identity of their own using a mix of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. It also examines the broader ramifications of heritage education on community engagement in preservation activities. The findings show that although the heritage education improves cultural identity greatly, it has no influence on actively joining in the protection activities. There needs to be some supplementary support system. And that the result was that we needed to expand to be more inclusive. We should use education and work with the community for conservation efforts. and it also provides an important contribution for ever growing body of research on heritage education and it gives critical feedback or critique to education systems which can contribute to heritage maintenance. And it also gives a contribution to help community to prepare or to get ready for impact of modernization and globalizaiton.
