Abstract
In the era of Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear and Incomprehensible (BANI), the biggest conundrum facing the organizations is acquiring new talent and retaining it. The traditional ways of recruitment are obsolete in the era of emotional fragility, broken careers and chaos at work. Search for “purple squirrels”, candidates who have the right mix of skills, experience and cultural fit, is often a detriment to, and a hinderer of, the recruitment process and favours homogeneity over diversity. Surprisingly, companies continue to struggle in making long-term workforce full-time-equivalent-based plans and balancing short-term immediate hiring needs against the long-term need for employee engagement despite significant advancements in AI-based sourcing and HR analytics. Through the dynamic cross currents of talent acquisition and retention of BANI market this paper occupies itself in suggesting tight and flexible labour management models. Based on a wide-ranging review of current literature, the study combines the BANI concept with the Ability-Motivation-Opportunity (AMO) model to build a deeper insight into sustainable workforce management. This article enumerates the personality of purple squirrels, the minimum requirements of IT-startups firms and possible measures to attract and retain purple squirrels in a volatile and disrupted employment realization. Resorting to the exceptional talents too often does have a negative side for the recruitment industry, and the success rate of AI-powered recruitment in netting the purple squirrels is also analysed in this report. The article also emphasizes the impact of BANI conditions on employee expectations regarding professional development, dimensions of the life at work, and the companies' loyalty. These are the subject areas that were selected compared with others, to provide an insight into longer-term workforce management strategies - from how to deploy the latest HR technology to how to overlay potential-centred approaches to people, so that they become even more robust and agile in the BANI world.
