Journal History

The International Journal of Business and Management (IJBM) was established in 2006 by the Canadian Center of Science and Education (CCSE) as an international, peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to disseminating high-quality research in business and management.

  • ISSN (Print): 1833-3850
  • ISSN (Online): 1833-8119
Both ISSNs have remained unchanged since the journal's launch.

IJBM has been published continuously and without interruption since Volume 1, Issue 1 (February 2006). The publication frequency has evolved in response to editorial capacity and scholarly demand:

  • 2006–2011 (Vol. 1, No. 1 – Vol. 7, No. 12): Monthly (12 issues/year)
  • 2012–2013 (Vol. 8, No. 1 – Vol. 9, No. 24): Semi-monthly (24 issues/year)
  • 2014–2022 (Vol. 10, No. 1 – Vol. 17, No. 12): Monthly (12 issues/year)
  • 2023–present (Vol. 18, No. 1 onward): Bimonthly (6 issues/year; February, April, June, August, October, December)

From its inception, IJBM has maintained core scholarly standards:

  • blind peer review process has been applied to all submissions since 2006.
  • All manuscripts undergo mandatory plagiarism screening using iThenticate, also implemented from 2006.
  • The journal formally aligned its editorial policies with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices in 2017.
  • Starting in 2006, every published article has been assigned a persistent DOI via Crossref and is archived for long-term preservation through the LOCKSS system.

All issues remain openly accessible on the journal's website, ensuring transparency, global reach, and compliance with international best practices in scholarly publishing.

Peer Review Process

This journal is committed to rigorous and fair review standards, adhering strictly to the guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Review Model: Double-Blind Peer Review

This journal employs a double-blind peer review process, where both the reviewer and author identities are concealed from each other throughout the review process to ensure objective evaluation.

Standard Review Steps and Timeline

The standard steps for the review process are as follows:

1. Initial Screening, Quality Check, and Plagiarism Check

  • Timeline: Within 3 business days.

  • Procedure: The editorial office assesses the manuscript for its fit with the journal's scope, adherence to basic formatting requirements, and methodological completeness.

  • Plagiarism: All manuscripts are then screened for textual similarity using the latest version of Turnitin. Submissions that fail initial quality checks, lack necessary ethical declarations, or have high similarity rates are desk-rejected promptly by the Editor-in-Chief.

2. Double-Blind External Review

  • Selection: Qualified manuscripts are sent to at least two (2) external domain experts. Reviewers are selected based on their specific research expertise, recent publications in the field, and confirmed lack of direct professional or personal affiliation (e.g., institutional or funding ties) with the authors.

  • Review Criteria: Reviewers are instructed to evaluate the manuscript against criteria including: originality, methodological rigor, clarity of presentation, logical coherence, significance of findings, and compliance with ethical standards.

  • Conflict of Interest (COI) Management: All selected reviewers must explicitly declare that they have no actual or perceived conflict of interest with the authors or the content of the manuscript.

3. Decision and Timeline

  • Timeline: The average time to the first decision is 4–10 weeks from submission.

  • Procedure: The Editor-in-Chief makes a final decision (Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject) based on the comprehensive feedback and recommendations provided by the external reviewers.

4. Revision and Re-review

  • Author Feedback: Authors receive detailed, aggregated feedback from the reviewers and the handling editor.

  • Re-evaluation: Revised manuscripts undergo a rigorous re-evaluation, typically by the original reviewers, to ensure all comments and concerns have been addressed effectively and transparently. If revisions are insufficient, the manuscript may be rejected without further review.

5. Final Acceptance and Quality Assurance

  • The manuscript is formally accepted for publication only after passing all final checks for formatting, data integrity, and strict adherence to the journal’s publication ethics policies.

Ethical and Accountability Statements

A. Strict Adherence to Ethical Guidelines

All reviewers, editors, and editorial staff strictly adhere to the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), ensuring fairness, confidentiality, and professional standards throughout the process.

B. Conflict of Interest (COI) Declaration
  • Mandatory Disclosure: All authors, reviewers, and editors are required to disclose any potential, perceived, or actual financial, professional, or personal conflict of interest that may bias the research or the review process. Failure to disclose COI may lead to rejection or retraction.

C. Data and Materials Transparency
  • During the review process, authors may be required to provide access to relevant underlying data, code, and research materials for verification by the reviewers or editors, strictly for the purpose of ensuring the reproducibility and validity of the results.

D. Author Appeals Policy
  • Authors have the right to formally appeal a rejection decision. Appeals must be submitted in writing to the Editor-in-Chief, clearly documenting the specific reasons (e.g., procedural error, evidence of factual misjudgment, or bias). Appeals will be handled by an independent Associate Editor or Editorial Board Member who was not involved in the original decision.

E. Post-Publication Corrections and Retractions
  • The journal maintains a robust policy for issuing corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions in accordance with COPE guidelines, should significant errors, ethical breaches, or data fabrication be discovered after publication.

F. Acceptance Rate and Review Records
  • Acceptance Rate: The average acceptance rate for this journal is currently maintained below 42% to ensure strict quality and impact standards.

  • Record Keeping: All documentation related to the peer review process, including reviewer comments, revision letters, and editorial decisions, is securely archived for a minimum of five (5) years following the final decision date for accountability purposes.
