Abstract

Objective: To develop and examine the effects of a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) activity package on enhancing emotion management among secondary school students. Methodology: This study employed a survey research design and a one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design, divided into two phases: Survey Phase: To examine the levels of emotion management among a population of 720 secondary school students (Grades 7-9), with a sample of 136 students selected via cluster sampling. (2) Experimental Phase: To conduct a quasi-experimental study with a purposive selection of 20 target students (from the initial sample) exhibiting the lowest levels of emotion management to participate in the developed SEL activity package. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Results: The findings indicated that the students' overall emotion management was at a moderate level. Following the implementation of the activity package, the students' emotion management scores increased significantly at the .05 statistical level. These findings provide preliminary evidence that the SEL-based activity package may contribute to improvements in students’ emotion management and may be applied in educational settings to promote students’ life skills and socio-emotional development.
