Abstract

This article examines metallic-threaded tube skirts with lotus among Tai Khoen communities in Shan State, Chiang Mai, and Yunnan. It identifies a shared tripartite structure alongside regional variation in materials and decoration. Comparative analysis shows that key features, including silk textiles and embroidery techniques, derive from Chinese traditions. The study further demonstrates how these elements were adapted within local dress systems. Situating the skirts within networks of trade and migration, it argues that they result from sustained transregional interaction. The persistence of these hybrid designs reflects the selective adaptation of external materials and techniques within Tai culture.
