Using Case Studies for Teaching Management to Computer Engineering Students

  •  Ozgur Ates

Abstract

Case based learning is an important feature of business education as it enables students to discover and develop
their unique framework for understanding real business situations and dealing with business problems. The
objective of this paper was to show the outcomes of teaching an introductory management course to
non-business students using the case methodology. The study was conducted on computer engineering students
at a university in Turkey to investigate their perceptions and approaches towards case based learning. The data
was collected through a survey and classroom observations. The results show that the students’ active
participation and discussion in class on cases increased their retention and motivation in learning the new
concepts.
